Drove only 1 hour for this location, was very disappointed upon my approach. Park seemingly not on the DNR's list for maintaining. Grounds dirty and uninviting. Trash not picked up, lake not maintained, I felt sorry for the resident ducks and geese. I won't go there again!! SW Maryland

This little park is a nice setting for a stroll around the duck pond, but the attraction is the multiple Great Egret nests and Black-crowned Heron nests in the trees around the pond. Visit in April and watch (and photograph)these birds flying with sticks to build their nests. Some mating rituals can also be seen. Just don't stand underneath them or you might get white washed!

I traveled 4 hours specifically because i heard about the egret rookery. I was not disappointed! I saw about 20 egrets and quite a few black crowned night herons. We stayed for about an hour which was enough time for me to get the pictures i wanted. I thought it was a very lovely little lake, odd that it was right smack in the middle of town. I would have gone back a second day but the weather was not cooperating.I definitely recommend a visit especially if you are a lover of birds. The egrets are stunning!

We passed this lake several times during our stay and we all commented on it and how nasty it was with an over abundance of ducks and trash. It would have been great to explore it if it had been cleaned up.

We visited the park this week specifically because we knew that the Great Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons were supposed to be nesting. We weren't disappointed and saw more than a dozen egrets and two herons. While speaking to someone who had been here before, I learned that there used to be many more; she said that the trees used to be white with egrets! Canada Geese are a nuisance here and this problem is worsened by the fact that people are feeding the ducks and geese. As soon as we arrived there, we read the sign forbidding the feeding of waterfowl (which is the case in most public areas) but saw one family feeding them and then a second family arrived with a huge bag of food. We mentioned it to the mother and she said she didn't know and told her son not to feed them anymore. I definitely want to return here and spend more time trying to see some of the other species of birds in the park. Also want to try an evening visit so see if more birds are coming to roost at that time.
