tripadvisorThe Tree carvings were amazing along with the history of the Indians living in Niwot in the past. Niwot is a lovely small Colorado town that is worth visiting if you are in the Boulder area.
MoreDon't miss the opportunity to see these if you are in Niwot. Just two main sculptures along with a plaque tell the history of the town and Arapahoe Indian presence there.
MoreWe almost stopped driving to see these gorgeous carvings. There is space to park, and there were several families around. Would love to see again!
MoreNiwot is a small town with it's place in history as a railroad town with Native American roots. Several large tree stump carvings by Eddie Running Wolf commemorate the Native American figures of Spear Lodge Man, The Holy Man, and The Eagle Catcher. Descriptive plates tell their stories, and a sculpture garden runs adjacent to the carvings. If you are in the area, they are worth a visit; the carvings are intricately done, and the history they capture should not be forgotten.
MoreTake a few minutes to stroll over to the tree carvings on the south side of Niwot Rd near 2nd Ave. For years I got to see sculptor Eddie Running Wolf transform these massive tree stumps into magic. You may be inspired to read about the history of the Arapaho people. Niwot means left-handed, and Boulder County is home to Left Hand Creek, Left Hand Canyon, and the towering Niwot Ridge in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.
