We are seasoned bicycle tourers. When we started riding the trail in October starting in Clinton much if not most of the trail was covered with leaves, obscuring downed limbs and ruts some deep enough to cause one of the bikes in our group to go down, , resulting in a trip to the ER for a diagnosed mild concussion. While we thoroughly enjoyed the lodging, dining options snd welcoming attitudes and great service at all our hotels and restaurants along the trail, we deemed the trail too dangerous to ride on touring bikes when it’s covered in leaves, and abandoned the ride.

The trail is well maintained and has pretty easy rolling hills with very few steep grades. It offers a view of a plethora of wild life, woodland and farmland, and has plenty of places to stop. It’s a great way to take in America’s heartland.

Planned to have a lovely lunch in Rocheport. Stayed in Boonville in the Hotel Frederick and left from Boonville trailhead. I ride a recumbent trike. Just as we were getting close to Rocheport (about a mile out), the TRAIL WAS CLOSED!!! Thought about taking the detour, but the rode was too busy and dangerous! Good thing we brought snacks! Just be mindful of the damage the flooding did and know has not yet been repaired .

We visited the Katy Trail State Park near Jefferson City. The trail is used for biking and hiking. From the trail-head at north Jefferson City there is a trail to Missouri's capitol city across the Missouri River Pedestrian - Bike Bridge. We walked the trail for an hour enjoying the birds, forest, and wild flowers. Next time we will walk the other direction for different views.

I've been riding the entire length of this trail yearly since 92. Awesome and lengthy and beautiful scenery. If in good bike shape you can do it in 3-5 days quite easily. Some great small towns to visit along the way, of course.
