tripadvisorWe attended a wedding venue here in the Monet Room that was bright, airy and perfect for the occasion. There wereenough tables and not too close together. The wedding reception was also in the same room after the ceremony which worked out well for the amount of people who were there. There were restrooms down the hall close to the Monet Room. There was convenient and ample parking. If there was one complaint it was that it was a bit noisy with all the conversation and the music. Otherwise, it went well.
MoreWe had a 60th birthday party for two ladies on June 30th. The temperature that day was 90 degrees and very muggy. The air conditioning was not working properly, and management did not address the issue in a timely manner. All of our guests were hot and sweaty. Management was slow to respond and seemed experienced with handling customer service issues. The faucet in women restroom did work properly and management blamed that on the guests. I do not recommend using this facility in the future.
MoreMy daughter's wedding ceremony and reception was the Mellwood Art Center in the Van Gogh room on 7/23/22. At the rehearsal on 7/22, the room was extremely hot. We expressed concerns to Jamie who indicated the AC was not on as there wasn't an event on Friday but assured us the room would be sufficiently cooled by morning. We arrived at 8 am on Saturday to drop off decorations and the room temperature was still uncomfortable. We again expressed our concerns as we knew it would only get warmer and an employee told us it was being addressed. About mid-morning, our wedding coordinator asked if fans could be brought in but was told there were none. It became evident the AC was not working as the thermostat was set on 70 but the room temp kept rising. At one point, the temp was above 90 degrees. Our wedding coordinator took a picture of the thermostat at 8:59 pm and temp was still 86 degrees. There was a reception in the Da Vinci room which is larger than the Van Gogh room and the temperature in that room was normal so this is just another indication the AC was not working in the Van Gogh room. I have to give a shout out to whoever's reception that was, as they allowed several of our guests to cool off in the Da Vinci room during their reception. My husband found one fan as he was walking through the back rooms and put it out but this only provided minor relief for anyone standing directly in front of it. Most of our guests spent time in the walk in cooler at some point in the even trying to cool down. Some other impacts from the heat: 1) my other daughter suffered heat exhaustion and was throwing up and had to receive medical treatment from one of the brides maids who was doctor. She had to leave the reception early due to not feeling well. 2) our wedding coordinator had a heat rash on both legs. 3) the cheese cubes melted on the charcuterie table as well as the cheesecake on the dessert table. 4) our guests were dripping in sweat which is always uncomfortable and made more so since they were in cocktail attire. On Monday, I called and talked with Jamie about our experience and requested a refund due to breach of contract for not providing sufficient accommodations for our event. She didn't seem that concerned but said she would pass the information along to the owner, John Clark. I requested a response by Tuesday. I didn't hear anything until Thursday and this was only after repeated calls. Jamie informed me Mr. Clark indicated I would not receive a refund so I asked to speak with him directly. To date, I have not received a call from him. Jamie commented she was sorry if some of my guests had been impacted by the heat to which I laughed and responded that ALL of my guests had been impacted not just SOME of them. Thinking she truly didn't understand the impact, I had several guests email her with their experience. On Friday, 7/29, I received a call from Kelley who had seen some of the emails. She genuinely seemed concerned and asked for me to provide any documentation I had. In addition to the emails, I provided pictures of the thermostat at 86 degrees and the wedding coordinator's heat rash and videos of the thermostats from the Van Gogh and Da Vinci rooms. Kelley called me back and said she had reviewed the information and AGREED we were due a refund but she had to present all the information to the owner. Our wedding coordinator reached out to several other vendors who have worked the Van Gogh room and was told this room has been hotter than Hades for a long time, another indication the AC has not been working but has not been addressed. I also passed this information to Kelley. After several emails and phone messages, I finally talked to Kelley today who told me Mr. Clark is still refusing my request for a refund. He actually said the heat was caused by the doors being open when the chairs were moved from the ceremony to the reception. This is ridiculous as the ceremony didn't take place until 5 pm and the room temperature was already well into the 80s and the doors had been closed all day. Not to mention, it took the Mellwood employees about an hour to move 150 chairs and they are the ones who left the doors open.I know this is along post, but just want anyone thinking about booking at the Mellwood to think twice. If you currently have an event booked in the Van Gogh room, I would inquire now about the AC and have a back up plan in place. The overall lack of caring, concern and gross negligence is deplorable. Do not hold your event here!!! I would not even given them 1 star but had to in order to provide a review!
MoreThe owners had a vision when opening this place and I appreciate their vision. The antique mall downstairs has a bit of everything. They have smalls all the way up to furniture. Even if not looking to purchase, it is a cool place to walk around. The upper floors have spaces for weddings/large functions, art studios, gyms, spaces for small businesses, and a good pizza place (Danny Mac). The crack bread is not healthy at all, but delicious. They continue with remodeling/renovation. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this place that is already packed full of character.
MoreThis weekend in a space that was recently opened I believe a number of local artisans were selling some unique items. It’s always nice to see local folks with interesting things to sell. We came away with a couple of finds today. From time to time they have these local events there that are worth a look. You could even buy an upscale teepee there. Really?
