I went to SOMArts on the recommendation of another local gallery owner, and was definitely impressed. It feels professional but still very raw and local. Students attend classes inside the building, and the place functions as an actual community hub, but the art is a genuine draw all by itself. The building is in an industrial part of town (close to Trader Joe's), and so not really close to other tourist destinations per se, but it's definitely worth tracking down.
