The James Castle House has many layers. The tours and gallery experience provide information about James Castle’s life and home. The artist in residence space is a way for artists to connect with the space and the public in a different way and the general store has nostalgic pieces similar to items that James Castle had along with contemporary items that relate to the place.

I'm so proud to have this amazing piece of history in my neighborhood. If you are local or visiting Boise I can't recommend it enough. The artists that have been involved with this project are amazing and you can't beat the feeling you get as you walk around the house and experience James Castle's work.

Wonderful historical preservation of an amazing artist, his works, and the house he lived in. It is amazing to see the effort put into the entire property, not just the intimate and delicate works of James Castle.

Experiencing James Castle's art and how he achieved it is a moving and fascinating experience. This is not a simple art museum where you just look at pictures. You see what he saw, experience his life and landscape, consider the unique materials he used and his honest, innocent approach to putting ash and spit to paper. Out of the way, yes. But well worth the trip. A lovely retail shop on site can help you take a bit of the history home.

We walked in and Jessie greeted us. She took us around, gave us context for the artist and his art. Her passion was contagious and we left fans of Mr. Castle's work. The experience was very special. Seeing all this costs nothing and is well worth the short trip out of downtown.
