No Whining for Wine When You Can Have Art! When visiting Napa Valley, CA, thoughts turn toward vineyards and winery tasting tours. As for me, visiting the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art was THE destination. A murderer's row of roses lined the path from the parking lot to the first display building. We appreciated the coolness of the indoor spaces on this warm day. We walked a whole lot, both in the various buildings, between the buildings, and throughout the outdoor art spaces with sculptures. On one particularly sunny stretch of our journey, we opted for a ride in the large golf-cart-type vehicle, and the volunteer docent/ driver had encyclopedic knowledge of the art collection, the history of the di Rosa family, and the estate. So, even if you want to get your maximum steps in for the day, I suggest that you hop on the shuttle for at least one leg of the journey. This is a classy, sophisticated, quiet place, beautifully landscaped; however, kids would enjoy the outdoor installations of sheep grazing on a hill, towering file cabinets in the middle of a field (which surely should elicit discussion of metaphors), brightly colored and larger-than-human sized pipe cleaners, and more. A knowledgeable, friendly docent greeted us in each of the indoor exhibition spaces. We spent longer here than I expected to, and I I am very glad we went.

We went for a guided hike through the property and viewed a large collection of art. The experience was heightened by the beautiful landscape, outdoors on a gorgeous day, and the docents. The docents take pride in explaining the art structures behind each piece.

One of the galleries was closed which was too bad. The other gallery was open and had some nice stuff (but also a lot of crud). The outdoor setting was beautiful with the pond and the hills. I hope they got a discount on the outdoor sculptures as they were mostly abysmal. I can't believe that any sane person/institution could have seen some of these pieces and actually purchased them. Has sculpture really come to this?

Loved the art in both galleries. Because of heavy rain prior to our visit, they were not doing the tour or allowing anyone in the sculpture garden.
