tripadvisorThe Great Falls National Park in Virginia is a federal park and is managed by our National Park Service. It is about 15 miles from Washington, D.C. The Great Falls area is located along the Potomac River. We went to visit this beautiful national park while my grandson and I were visiting Washington D.C.The entrance fee per car is $20, this covers all passengers in the vehicle. There are three main lookout points on the Virginia side that command a fantastic view of the large flowing cascading falls below. Interesting, inside the park itself you see remains of the first US Canal that used locks to bypass the falls. It was America’s first president, George Washington, who backed this project to make the Potomac River traversable from the Ohio River Valley to Washington, D.C.In the center of the Great Falls Park National Park is a very nice and interesting National Park Service Visitor Center.I have no idea why I forgot to bring my mobile phone, so I never took any photos of the falls or the rushing rapids below.
