It was a very short and quick stop in front of San Francisco's majestic City Hall and State Office Building.San Francisco City Hall is the seat of government for the City and County of San Francisco, California. The present building replaced an earlier City Hall that was destroyed during the 1906 earthquake, which was two blocks from the present one. The principal architect was Arthur Brown, Jr., of Bakewell & Brown, who also designed the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, Veterans Building, Temple Emanuel, Coit Tower and the Federal office building at 50 United Nations Plaza. The building's vast open space is more than 500,000 square feet and occupies two full city blocks. Its dome, which owes to Mansart's Baroque domes of the Val-de-Grâce and Les Invalides in Paris, is 19 ft (5.8 m) higher than the United States Capitol.Such a majestic, romantic building which i wish i had the time to see the inside buildings.

We were here for business at City Hall so we walked through the park in front. Nice new addition, a big play ground that was full of kids and their tenders. Otherwise the space was empty and uninviting as always. They never seem to get it right. And it can be very windy.

I worked in this area for many years, and by all concepts of urban design, this area should be beautiful. But the execution of the big park has never been attractive and continues to be full of the poorest of the poor with all of their problems. So most of us stay away for fear of crime and because it is just not inviting.

I worked just a block away for 25 years. Things changed a bit from year to year, but this space never got any better. All of the City's efforts to make this huge open space into something inviting and useful have failed and it is still very unpleasant. Sad because many of the classic buildings around are beautiful and extremely important. Everyone runs through this area and does not linger. Same for you.

We had a great time in the Civic Center Commons area during December. During December there is a nice Christmas tree. There is also ice skating. Since many go to the Civic Center area for holiday shows such as the Nutcracker, there were many people enjoying the area. There is a year round playground. There are good views from this area also of the city governnment buildings such as the City Hall.
