tripadvisorPark near overpass of RT 35 in Round Rock. We parked at Happy State Bank and there was lots of room to sit, bring your own chairs. The bats come out just before last light. It was August so the bats were plentiful and fun to watch. The road under the overpass is loaded with bat poop so watch your step. Fortunately a woman passing under was able to get through unscathed but use caution when passing underneath thousands of bats
MoreThe tour was very good. We enjoyed learning about the architecture along the river as well as learning about the bats. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable about both. What the company can't control is the likelihood that a large amount of bats will leave their nests at one time, which did not happen on our tour. Apparently, that is more likely to happen later in the summer. Letting customers know that prior to booking will help to manage expectations. We would have still done the tour, but would have known beforehand what to expect. (maybe I just didn't read the fine print??).
MoreYou have to go to the new location to see the bats. Park at the Allen Boots lot and walk north on the frontage road past the last store. You will not be disappointed.
MoreUnfortunately all the bats died in the extreme freeze of winter 2021. So don't expect to see any bats in Round Rock.
MoreThis time of year, expect them shortly after eight pm. First all the fluttering under the bridge, then the streams of black through the sky. It never fails to be exciting. And it’s easy in and out of the parking lot.
