tripadvisorRooms are warmly decorated and have everything you want and need; stocked and clean. We especially liked the vintage looking speakers to connect our music or when enjoying a movie. Many dining options on site or walking distance. We have enjoyed many incredible meals downstairs at San Morello (their fresh made pasta is heavenly!) Staff was helpful with holding our bags till we were ready to leave and answered all of our questions on a very busy weekend (Detroit marathon)
MoreFirst time at the Shinola Hotel. We were blown away! What a great experience. Cant wait to come back. The rooms are so nice that we did not want to leave them
MoreThe Shinola Hotel is a lovely property and we enoyed the locatoin, our room, the staff, and dining at San Morello. The issue was the noise of the cars the evening we stayed. It sounded like we were in the middle of a drag race and it lasted for hours. The hotel provides each room with a white noise machine plus we got ear plugs from the front desk but those remedies could not cancel all the noise and I was unable to sleep. This went on until after 3:00 am. We had a room on the top floor, away from Woodward Avenue but it was still really loud. This is not a reflection so much on The Shinola Hotel as it is about the city not enforcing a safer downtown.
MoreSecond night there the roar of the motorcycles up and down the streets did not let up until after 3 a.m. This became mind numbing as there was no break from it. Windows are not sound proofed enough. The bed needed replacing as it had a dip in the middle. I am a small person. Attachments for hair dryer did not fit. Had to get on your hands and knees to be able to plug your phones in side of the bed. Lots of storage if you need to unpack. Check-out. Front desk person, unfriendly staring at the screen versus looking the customer in the eyes when she spoke. She wanted to charge $50 bucks for a one hour late check out and a $100 for two hour check out. Money grab. The only way to get change was to have to go to the bar. Front desk keeps no money. Is the hotel safe? They are running bell hops and valet. They know people will need change. Hotel is beautiful and in a great location. Very overpriced. Will not be back, All in, almost $1K per night for my two night stay.
MoreWe celebrated my daughter Sukie’s 16th birthday at the Shinola Hotel, and it was an experience we will never forget! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make every moment feel special and create memories we will cherish forever. The valet team was patient, kind, and welcoming. Bellmen Terrance and Rasheed made us feel so special, and Tonya at check-in was an absolute delight. She went above and beyond to make our arrival wonderful. Their kindness and willingness to help made such a difference, and none of these thoughtful gestures went unnoticed. Every member of the team played a part in making our stay exceptional. The Guest Experience team truly blew us away with the thoughtful surprise amenities waiting in our room. Hannah and Samuel created an evening that made Sukie’s birthday feel magical and showed just how much the team cares about creating meaningful experiences for their guests.I also want to recognize Cameron and Jimenna, who were a fantastic nighttime team. They were always ready to answer our questions and help with any last-minute, late-night needs. Our room was stunning, with beautiful views of the city and the energy and excitement of Woodward Avenue right outside our window. The Shinola Hotel perfectly blends Detroit’s timeless, old-school charm with modern luxury and amenities, creating an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and uniquely Detroit. What truly sets this hotel apart, though, is its people. Every interaction felt genuine, warm, and thoughtful. They didn’t just provide exceptional service; they made my daughter feel celebrated and made a milestone birthday even more memorable.Thank you to the entire Shinola Hotel team for making Sukie’s 16th birthday so incredibly special. We are beyond grateful for the memories you helped us create and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We can’t wait to return!
