tripadvisorThis hotel was walking distance in minutes to the conference center. Olivia helped me out prior to my arriving, great support! Hire more people like her. Some Front desk young guy Saturday morning didn’t seem very friendly but he was useful so no issues with him. I’d name him here but don’t recall the name. Most everyone else was helpful and friendly and made me feel appreciated. All the front desk ladies were great and the bistro staff were great even though they were crazy busy with the conference going on. I’ll be back this was a great location and staff were great and the garage parking was great in the shade.
MoreOur family stayed at the Marriott Dallas Allen Hotel & Convention Center because it was the recommended hotel for the convention we were attending. This was not a leisure vacation, but rather a long convention weekend where getting quality rest each night was especially important.Unfortunately, the hotel did not provide the comfortable environment we needed to recharge. The biggest issue was the beds. They were extremely uncomfortable, and every member of our family over the age of 10 struggled to fall asleep and stay asleep. This wasn’t unique to us. We spoke with several other families attending the convention, and nearly everyone shared the same complaint about the beds and overall sleep quality.Another issue was the atmosphere on our floor. From the moment we stepped off the elevator, the hallway felt noticeably humid, which made the floor feel less welcoming. That same humidity carried into our room. The air conditioning also seemed inconsistent, with some areas feeling overly cold while other parts of the room remained warm and humid. It made it difficult to ever feel comfortable. The hotel itself appears to have been recently built or remodeled, and the décor is modern and attractive. However, the overall layout is inconvenient. The distance between the front desk, parking garage, elevators, and guest rooms requires long walks, especially when transporting luggage or using a luggage cart. After a long day at the convention, those extra walks became frustrating. We were also disappointed by the dining options. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was around $25 per person, which felt excessive, especially considering breakfast is typically the most affordable meal of the day. As a family of four, there simply wasn’t a reasonably priced option to eat on the property. Because of that, we ended up leaving the hotel for every single meal. It would have been nice to have a convenient, family-friendly dining option available without having to leave the property each time. Our interactions with the front desk also left us disappointed. At check-in, I mentioned that I had a $25 Marriott gift card I wanted to use. I was immediately told to wait until checkout. When I brought it up again during checkout, it felt like it was an inconvenience for the staff to process it. I was first asked to email the gift card to the hotel, and after delays with the Wi-Fi and email, they eventually just took the card information manually. The entire interaction made it seem like they simply did not want to deal with it. While it was eventually accepted, the experience did not reflect the level of customer service I typically associate with the Marriott brand. Our checkout experience was similar. On the morning we were leaving, I called the front desk and asked if a luggage cart could be brought to our room. The associate explained that he was the only person working until 7:00 a.m., which I completely understood, so I told him that was fine. However, after 7:00 a.m., there was never any follow-up or callback. About 15 to 20 minutes later, I went down to the front desk myself, and the employee was no longer there. At that point, it was clear that no one had followed through on the request. It may seem like a small issue, but communication and follow-through are important parts of good customer service. One family we know experienced enough room issues that they were moved three different times during the weekend. While we didn’t have to change rooms, it reinforced that our experience was not an isolated one.I also want to recognize the positives. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job throughout our stay. We tipped them because every time we returned to our room, it was clean, fresh, and well maintained. Their efforts did not go unnoticed and were one of the highlights of our experience. The pool was another positive. Our children, along with many of the other kids attending the convention, really enjoyed spending time there on the first evening. It was a great amenity, especially during the Texas summer, and gave families a chance to unwind after a long day.Overall, the general consensus among the convention attendees we spoke with was that if the convention returns to Allen, many of us would choose to stay elsewhere. The hotel has an attractive, modern appearance, but comfort, climate control, customer service, convenience, and overall value fell short of expectations. For a property that serves as a host hotel for large family conventions, those fundamentals matter. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
MoreI am a Platinum member and spend a lot of time at Marriott hotels, I stayed for 1 night for a business trip at this hotel and the front desk lady was so rude! When I checked out, she told me I had not extra chores to my room in addition to the room charge alone and that she would send me an invoice. Now I see two charges, one for $164.43 and another one for $12. When I called them they told me that I was charged $12.00 for six bottles of water! Why would I pay this since I had free access to the Panty on the 6th floor where I could get as much free water I needed? This is ridiculous. The front desk person was just malicious and perhaps had a bad day and took it out on me.
MoreI’ve stayed 139 nights at a Marriott property this year and this trip has by far been the least pleasurable. The gal at check in was stale. Fine, I don’t care I do this every week. Sometimes the employees are less than friendly. This hotel has no traditional lounge, it’s more like the delta lounges but a bit worse. Chips, ice cream and drinks only. So they will give you breakfast vouchers to offset the no lounge thing. Except the food was horrible!!! Borderline inedible. They do made to order omelettes or waffles but I didn’t try those. Maybe that would be the savior. The sausage was so bad from the buffet I honestly couldn’t swallow it. I won’t even bother to go back, even though it’s free for me. McDonald’s breakfast is better than what this hotel is serving for the breakfast buffet. Can’t fathom actually having to pay for it. Lastly… my room has bugs. Gnats flying around, in the sink in the bathroom… just gross. I don’t have any food in the room but have bugs swirling around. Not the experience you expect from Marriott and I won’t ever book here again.
MoreWe were really looking forward to a relaxing night away from the kids for a nearby event, but unfortunately this stay didn’t live up to expectations.Cons:- We were told no upgrades were available, even though upgraded rooms still showed as available for purchase online — disappointing as Bonvoy elite members.- Room service arrived cold and in to-go boxes and a paper bag instead of on trays, which made it feel more like takeout than a hotel experience.- The worst part was the complete lack of soundproofing. We could clearly hear our neighbors’ early morning “activities” — not exactly what we wanted for our one night away.- No valet parking available, which you’d typically expect at a full-service Marriott.Pros:- The rooms themselves were clean and well-kept.- The lobby bar staff were great — friendly service and solid cocktails that were a highlight of the stay.Overall, the property looks nice on the surface but misses on the details that make a hotel feel premium.
