When I began working on cars in Berkeley, Volkswagens and Volvos were the vehicles du jour. I had a policy of taking on anything that would fit in the door, expanding my knowledge base one make at a time. In the late '70's and early '80's, when vehicles were becoming more complex, I began to limit the brands I worked on. This led to a mostly Asian and European clientele. That has remained the case up to the present, although an occasional domestic car isn't unheard of. I still enjoy the variety that a general repair shop sees, although specializing in one make or another would definitely be more remunerative. I regard myself as an honest, experienced, affordable mechanic who can prioritize what needs to be done now and what can be put off until later. With the exception of a few flyers posted on telephone poles in the early days, I do not advertise. All my business comes from word-of-mouth recommendations, which is just the way I like it.
