tripadvisorVery nice building! They don't make such nice buildings like this anymore..... Milwaukee Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse I was very impressed - Sean Fuerstenberg Milwaukee Area
MoreMy husband and I discovered this historic landmark (it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973) because we were staying diagonally across the street at The Pfister Hotel. Built between 1892-1899, this imposing granite building is Romanesque Revival architecture, or also referred to as Richardsonian Romanesque Revival, after architect Henry Hobson Richardson who designed many buildings in the Midwest. Richardson's predecessor on the project was architect James G. Hill who favored tall towers on the buildings he designed. If you can get to Downtown (also known as Eastown) Milwaukee, you can see this building and the others of this era around it, including The Pfister Hotel (1893), The Milwaukee Club (1883), and The Northwestern National Insurance Building (1906). The area is clean and during nicer weather has large flower planters on the street. It's a very comfortable area to walk in and look at historic architecture.
