Instinct Defense Academy is the place to be for practical, reality-based self defense and functional martial arts training. We have been teaching since 1991 in the greater Portland area. You don't need to have any previous martial arts training, or be some kind of super athlete to benefit from this training, all you need to be is willing to learn. Because these are battlefield skills, strength and power usually take a back seat to distance, timing and redirection of energies. Height and weight as well as physical strength have no bearing whatsoever to a good practitioner. We study the art of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, also more commonly known as Ninjutsu. Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is an ancient Japanese martial art, steeped in centuries of fighting traditions utilized by the Samurai and Ninja of feudal Japan. It continues to be practiced as a living martial art under the guidance of Grandmaster Dr. Massaki Hatsumi.
