This beautiful dome rock is so much more gorgeous in person than the picture can portray. It's also been underrated in the must see sites of Yellowstone Park, but I thought it was well worth the stop in the Upper Terrace drive.

Over the years I’ve seen the flow volume and even individual vents shift as mineral builds up to alter the spring’s plumbing. What’s most interesting is how close viewers can approach the mound while still on the safety boardwalk to see sunlight shimmering in the shallow runoff, coloured brilliantly by orange microorganisms thriving in the hot water.Sadly, buses, RVs and trailers are not allowed on the Upper Terrace Road.

Interesting and colorful formation with water gently percolating out the top. The Upper Terrace Drive was also enjoyable which allowed viewing of other features and a scenic view of Mammoth Hot Springs.

The Orange Spring Mound is an often overlooked feature in Yellowstone as it is hidden away in the back of Upper Terrace Drive. Here you can take a quick spin around a loop road (no RV / trailers) where not only can you see the upper part of the terraces but also continue on to the Orange Spring Mound. Given the size of the mound and the low water rate you can consider how long this has taken to build up. At different times of the day when the lighting is just right you can also see this formations true, unique color. The Orange Spring Mound is also handicapped accessible.
