tripadvisorWe went to the Presidio Officer's Club museum today and it was fantastic. We are locals and I couldn't believe we had never been there before! There's an amazing museum that tells the history of the Presidio (currently open on Saturdays only from 11 AM-4 PM). Steve, our guide, was a veteran who had actually worked in the building back when it was a US military club. He was full of knowledge and interesting anecdotes. We loved chatting with him. The Andy Goldsworthy Earth Wall artwork was also amazing to see at the museum. Highly recommend a visit- we will be back. Also, it's free!
MoreIn this newest transformation, the Officers Club is a museum (currently showing the Japanese American experience of Executive Order 9066), archaeological site, and restaurant. The Officers Club's history is preserved in the photos and architecture of the building. One can imagine the Officers' Balls, dinners and dancing, and weddings that would occur here when it was an Army Base. The Presidio is now overseen by the National Parks Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservatory.
MoreIt may not be the most exciting place, but the service, the food, and the drinks are really excellent. Pasta, lamb, and steak cooked perfectly. Martinis were fantastic. Service was nice, attentive, but not intrusive.
MoreToday this former Officer's Club of the Presidio houses the Presidio Museum, offers a large living room and contains the Arguello Restaurant. As you enter this building realize it is still standing from the earliest days of San Francisco history. There is a very helpful attendant as you enter who will tell you about the building and what it contains and and they will offer you directions as to how to see the site, There is no charge for visiting.
MoreWhile staying at the Presidio, we strolled over to check out this historic building and the exhibits inside. Of particular note is the exhibit on Japanese-Americans interned during WWII. Well done portrayal of this tragic event.
