tripadvisorAny history or architecture buff would love this tour. There's even a museum inside. You have plenty of time to tour everything after a 30-minute narrated ride out there. Pay close attention to the damage still visible. Wear comfortable shoes because much of the ground is uneven and have a hat or sunscreen as you are fully in the open while out there. Trip is good for adults and kids to explore.
MoreHighly recommend for all age groups. Ample parking, scenic boat tide, American history, knowledgable Park Rangers, amble time to walk around the Fort Sumter, a museum with artifacts, pictures, and information, and a reasonable cost for the boat ride and admission.
MoreI was exploring Charleston and upon seeing ft sumter in the harbor I knew I had to go. the ferry over was fine....pulling up to the ft and seeing the walls...started to feel awestruck. once we all got inside a park Ranger gave a short talk and then you have like an hour (wish had been longer) to explore the fort. truly Incredible.
MoreThe highlight was the talk by the Park Ranger on the boat on the way over to the Fort, (it happened to be June 6th....) then his Flag Raising Ceremony speech. I'm not from the USA, but his delivery was hair raising. One of the best I've ever heard. Of course, exploring the fort and imagining what happened there is an amazing experience.
MoreAn amazing tour. The history on the trip out, and back was amazing. Loved this tour.I have visited many battle fields, but to see where the Civil War started was an amazing and that was something I have been waiting to see. Brought tears to my eyes seeing how these people acted as gentlemen, and how it became the bitter, nasty battles it became. Reminds me of today.
