tripadvisorI had an opportunity to experience East 6th Street at its best on a Friday night in June and was left with a much better impression than the last time in Austin. The sidewalks and bars were packed with energetic partygoers. Similar vibe and crowds to Broadway in Nashville or Bourbon Street in New Orleans. It is definitely a young crowd. Most of the bars are crowded and blasting loud music but we middle aged guys found maybe the only quieter drinking establishment on the street called The Dead Rabbit where we could have a few pints and enjoy some conversation. East 6th Street in East Austin had a very different atmosphere to the area downtown. It is a more relaxed and hipster neighborhood with terrific breweries and nice eateries, and I enjoyed this section of 6th Street much better than the sensory overload of downtown.
MoreVisited during the intervening night of 6th and 7th July 2023With friend this place is a wonderful experience. the energy and buzz is high with lot of locals and few tourist visiting the night clubs and bars which dot this place. Music is of choice of the patrons and booze is free flow.Do carry your passport/ID card for entry to the night clubs. Dress casually. Drug use is rampant, please watch out. Also parking will be an issue and you may have to do couple of rounds to spot parking. We parked naer a hotel at USD 10.00/- for couple of hours.Energetic place you will definitely like the vobe if visiting with friends.Enjoy.
MoreWe stayed on 6th street in our Airbnb and we were told all the good spots are on 6th street. There was definitely a lot of places to walk past and see and some of the architecture is really historic looking- however I found the bars we walked past to be average and the street was very dirty. Lots of homeless people and one day we walked outside of our Airbnb on 6th street and there was human feces outside our door. Lots of renovations happening and we had a hard time getting to our Airbnb on the Friday night because they close off 6th street.
MoreWe walked around during the day and had lunch. the streets are very dirty, a lot of buildings empty or being renovated, homeless hanging out. I suppose it's better at night when you can't see all this, but while here Sunday-Wednesday we could not find any live music listed online to motivate us to try going back in pm.
MoreOne of the best streets for bar hopping historically but there are much better options to check out in Austin.
