tripadvisorI saw 'Stupid F*****g Bird' and found it both typical and original. Typical because City Lights has a habit of finding new or recent plays that aren't done often by bigger companies. Original because this one was a modern rendering of Chechov's 'The Seagull', an interesting take and done with a good cast. I always like attending and supporting this theater group and appreciate their high quality performances.
MoreThis afternoon I saw a matinee performance of 'Ideation'. The play was thought provoking and entertaining. The actors were very good. The theater was sold out for this performance and I believe this is happening more and more to City Lights Theater Company. I have season tickets because City Lights offers consistently interesting play choices with talented, professional actors and skilled directors. With each season that passes, the plays and performers just get better. Parking is available on the street but it's limited; just 1 1/2 blocks from the theater is plenty of free parking in a city owned lot under a freeway overpass. There is a 10 minute walk to the closest bus stop. Theater is easily walkable if you are in downtown San Jose. The theater company has applied for a wine and beer license and will soon offer beverages to audiences.
MoreWe've been subscribing for years. Small, intimate theater, mostly good choice of plays, enthusiastic actors, good sets and direction, and a quaint custom of inviting the audience on stage after the play to meet the actors and have a glass of wine or water. I always look forward to their productions and if you are in town when they are doing a musical (summertime) then you really should not miss it. Highly recommended. Note that I am a local in San Jose, not a traveller, just trying to review things that travelers might like when they are in town.
Moregood plays, nice location, building is also nice, doesnt' have plays very often, but when they do, they are usually pretty good
