The Fort Lauderdale History Center, managed by the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, is a museum complex that comprises three buildings: the 1905 New River Inn, the 1907 King-Cromartie House, and the 1915 Schoolhouse. The 1905 New River Inn is the main history museum with period artifacts, dioramas and photos. The 1907 King-Cromartie House gives visitors a glimpse of an early 20th-century home. The center offers programs for children, including hands-on re-enactments, schoolhouse classes, guided tours of exhibits in the history museum, guided walking tours of the grounds and lectures throughout the year.

tripadvisorGreat experience! Much recommended!
MoreGreat people and a wonderful break from the outside heat. Well worth the stop!
MoreA small but nice museum in Fort Lauderdale, located in a lush setting right on the river and situated in the middle of highrise buildings in the downtown area. Comprised of four or five buildings circa 1900, the museum offers a nice respite from the heat. I was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent three-room exhibit on the history of Fort Lauderdale's courts and judiciary, which included details of the famous Anna Nicole Smith case, as well as the Florida hanging chad recount involving Bush v. Gore. My architect friend was more interested in the blueprint for the 1928 courthouse, a sad reminder than even Fort Lauderdale was once part of the segregated South. Among other exhibits was one on the Seminole Tribe.
MoreWonderful experience! The museum is incredible and has so much to offer, including historical facts that were new to me after having lived in Fort Lauderdale for decades. Val provided a warm welcome and initial information about the museum. The guided tour, by David, of the other buildings (house and schoolhouse) was equally as interesting and enjoyable. Both tours are a definite must do for visitors and long time residents!
MoreGreat museum of Fort Lauderdale history. It’s interesting to see what was once a hotel now being used as a history museum. They have a lot packedin to a relatively small place and all the employees were informative and fun. There were three employees who gave us tours. One of them was Milton, who was really great.
