Joseph Strauss had a vision of a bridge across the bay. It was surprising to discover that a couple thousand objections were lodged against his plans. Eventually it was approved, but the timing was unfortunate, right in the midst of the Great Depression. So funding was almost impossible to raise. Until he approached the banker, A.P. Giannini, who being assured that the bridge would last forever, funded the dream. Both visionaries are celebrated in this grand plaque.
