We went to Hicklebee's Book Store in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. They specialize in children's books and toys, but also have a respectable section for others as well. They sometimes hold special events.

I hadn't been to this bookstore since I was a kiddo, but it used to be my favorite place to go. A lot of the cute play areas are gone, like the big bathtub we used to be able to sit and read a book in. However, it's still very charming inside. There are mostly childrens books here but there are small teen and adult sections. I wouldn't come here to search out any book in particular since the selection is not that big for adult books, but they have all the big name books. Therefore, you could pick a book at random from their shelves and at least be assured its going to be a good read since its a popular title. We were picking up books for a baby shower as a gift and we found some great childhood favorites. I'd probably still go to my local recycled bookstore first because the prices are cheaper there, but this is a fun shop to browse.

When buying a children's book, please consider supporting this local gem. When watching Sleepless in Seattle and Meg Ryan's bookstore, I think of Hicklebee's. This special place is filled not only with children's books, but with people who love them. Over the past 20 years that I've lived here in Willow Glen, Madonna has come in and read books here; I've waited in line for a midnight copy of a new Harry Potter book; and i've selected author signed copy of books as gifts for children that I love.
