Was at the cemetery on trail and for Lafayette is a place should stop to see. Some really nice photo ops. Take a few minutes is small but worth it

Visitor center on NW Evangeline Thruway is a good stopping point to get information about the area and see some small exhibits about the area. Bathrooms and car parking available.

I lived in Mobile, AL for 5 years when I was a kid, and some of my fondest memories were of the azaleas. We planned this trip to Louisiana during prime blooming time to see them again, after many decades of living in the North. I downloaded the azalea trail road by road turns for Lafayette (preservation alliance of lafayette ASA). We followed about half of the trail and didn't see anything to write home about in the way of azaleas. Perhaps the recent storms damaged them.. I know Lafayette no longer actively promotes their Trail, so maybe the plantings are no longer producing, as they used to do. The most prolific azaleas we saw, were immediately around the state capitol grounds in Baton Rouge.

Go to Lafayette in early March, pick up a map at the Lafayette Tourism Center on the Evangeline Thruway and casually drive the urban core of the city to see big beautiful azalea blooms, historic homes and other beautiful landmarks. The 500 year old Cathedral of St John the Evangelist Live Oak, The Alexander Mouton Home and Museum, the cypress lake with alligators at the University of Louisiana, and the A Hays Town and Hilliard University Art Museums are my favorite points of interest.
