About the second week in June, as graduations die down, Modesto, CA comes to life with classic and vintage cars, a cruise route to celebrate the event and numerous car shows set up in Stanislaus County. This year, there were 1200-1400 entries from as far away as Europe and Australia. Some are works in progress and others are very high-end customized. Initially, this was an open event until it got so huge that the Kiwanis Club began to sponsor and organize it. They have done an excellent job at managing crowd control so that this can remain a family event to celebrate Modesto history.

Great self guided tour, describing the crusing experience of the 60's. This is George Lucas's hometown and he is loved and revered, here. There is a statue that has been erected to him. There are many murals downtown, that are exemplary examples of the cruising lifestyle of yesteryear. If you are a real crazy Graffiti nut, come the first weekend in June, when Modesto has a massive car show and parade,

Modesto is a nice place to visit, but more of a regular county office type location than a tourist attraction. The theatre district is a good place to start, and the Gallo Arts Pavilion dominates the downtown area. Unfortunately, confronted by homeless and/or D&D (Drunk and Disorderly) people three times (at 11 AM) in less than 10 minutes detracted from the pleasure of visiting the area. Plus, there are almost no clearly visible signs to return to the freeway from the downtown area.

Remember that movie with our young teens growing up with cars as their center of focus or maybe not the more important but right up there. Modesto is the historic scene for cruising the drag. Historic.

This is a cool, artistic, display in Modesto! It was great seeing it online and then actually finding it around town!
