Annadel State Park is a wonderful, large state park in Santa Rosa. Part of it conveniently extends right in town, connecting directly to neighborhoods in eastern Santa Rosa as well as connecting by trail directly to a large county park (Spring Lake Park) and large city park (Howarth Park) in town. There are trailheads directly in town from the adjacent neighborhoods. However, it is very extensive, covering many square miles and extending over the mountains to the Sonoma Valley and towards the small town of Glen Ellen. It includes mostly hilly, partly forested wild areas, but has picnic and bbq places as well. There re numerous unpaved dirt or gravel trails extending high into the hills above town and providing nice views over Santa Rosa as well as the surrounding countryside. There is also a reservoir, Lake Ilsanjo, which provides nice swimming in warm weather. There are streams flowing through the park as well. This provides a lot of great hiking, running, bicycling, boating and other activities, all easily accessed in town. It is free to enter this park on foot but one must pay if driving in and parking.

Good mountain biking and good for hiking, but no dogs allowed. Located right in Santa Rosa, but not busy at all

There?s nothing like walking through a grove of trees with peek-a-boo views across the rolling hills, tranquil natural settings and birdsong. #1 of 10 favorite walks in the region.

I have hiked and biked all over this park. Wonderful place left for all of us to enjoy by the Trioni family.

This is a lovely park, used frequently by locals for hking. But you really, really have to watch out for the mountain bikers. Supposedly bikes should be on designated trails only, but my experience was that they were EVERYWHERE. The problem is, the bikers cannot always be in control on some of the trails, so it is up to the hiker to scramble out of the way. I believe that hikers are supposed to have the right of way, since a bike is considered a vehicle, but the bikers do not follow that rule. I noticed some elderly hikers having difficulty getting out of the way. People generally are good about respecting distancing and mask wearing where they can't distance. On a recent hike, our experience included a family hiking with a LOUD boom box, which really spoiled the peace and quiet most folks want when out in nature. The park is quite beautiful, and you get some lovely vista views. Lake ilsanjo did not inspire me, but then it is a man-made lake. There are prettier lakes in Sonoma County.
