tripadvisorThis 2019 season of the summer rep is presenting (5) shows. All of which have been entertaining and enjoyable to sit through. You still have a few days to catch some of the plays so the clock is ticking. The 39 Steps was hysterical and the four actors held their own and swiftly moved this noir farce along. Highly recommended for belly busting laughs. Sylvia was fun and if you share your life with pets and a spouse you may recognize some familiar themes. A good piece for actors to add experience to the resume. Both in the very nice Newman theater with easy parking. Mamma Mia - always fun - found a cast eager to please but with no standout performances. If anything, a few were trying a bit too hard. I fault the director for not reeling in a few of the performances. Bonnie & Clyde - now here you have a winner. One of my favorite soundtracks I was anxious to see the play. This cast is the one that shines. Both leads are strong in both acting and voice. If they keep moving forward in their training there is potential here. The actor playing the preacher had a strong performance and made a splash with his limited stage time. Blanche did as well. A long play at 2 1/2+ I didn't realize it until I saw the time in my car. This is a good thing as it means I got lost in the story. High hopes for this crew. Pippen is up next so no review. Pavilion theater is okay but in the round sometimes frustrating. SRJC summer rep is a great way to support young artists and let them expand on training they are getting during other parts of the year. You never know who you might see in SR that ends up in a favorite shows years down the line.
MoreWhat a great musical put on by very talented local artists with a guest lead actor. The play the music the interaction with the audience were all phenomenal. However the lead female singer stole the show she will definitely be a rising star to watch truly fantastic voice. If it’s still playing definitely go see it. Enjoy!!!
MoreAs a fan of musical theater, I had the opportunity to see a few productions of this theatre company while staying in the Santa Rosa area. The shows are very high quality with talented performers from all over the U.S. I thoroughly enjoyed Merrily We Roll Along with the revolving stage, stunning costumes, seemless scene transitions, and beautiful Sondheim music. These performers managed to accurately capture the era of the 1950's to 1970's eventhough most were not born to decades after! On the other end of the spectrum was Rock of Ages which is not to be missed if you enjoy classic rock music and lived (survived) the '80's. There's a great love story behind the Rock and Roll music and it's just a fun (and funny) show. All the shows are on the campus of Santa Rosa Junior College and I would definitely recommend taking in several of the productions that they perform on a rotating basis.
MoreMy Red Hat Society Chapter and many other Chapters enjoy going together for a wonderful day. Of course we go to the 2:00 PM performances and enjoy dinner after at one of the wonderful restaurants close by.
MoreIf you are lucky enough to be in the greater Santa Rosa area in summer, don't miss a play at the SRJC Summer Rep. They scour the country and audition the best of the best performing arts students who gather here each summer to present 5 shows. Some of them are in 3 shows at once! They are all great. Some comedies and some musicals. This summer's South Pacific was outstanding and Tartuffe was superb. They managed to keep much of Moliere's language but change the setting to a modern one and did it like a reality TV show similar to the Real Housewives of Orange County. It was HILARIOUS. The theaters (2 venues) are small and mostly all the seats are good. Prices are reasonable as well. Do treat yourself and go to one, two, three, four or all five shows! Senior prices are available.
