Founded more than 40 years ago, Sacramento's professional ballet company presents a variety of traditional favorites and contemporary ballet choreography. The Nutcracker production runs for a month before Christmas and features 30 professionals and 420 Sacramento children in the extravaganza. Swan Lake and Romeo & Juliet are seasonal favorites as well. The artistic director also choreographs original interpretations, which challenge the dancers, many of whom begin as apprentices and then move into the starring roles over a period of years.
