tripadvisorWe accidentally found this helicopter tour on our way back from Johnston Ridge Observatory to Portland. We did not plan for this at all as we were not even aware of such tour in the area. We like taking high angle pictures using drones, but unfortunately drones are prohibited in Mount St. Helens and its surroundings. We took the 30 minutes tour and this tour gave us a great chance to take close-up pictures of Mount St. Helens summit and crater, especially during perfect weather. The flight preparation was very quick, professional. The pilot (Harry) was very knowledgeable of the area. The flight was very comfortable and relatively smooth despite some turbulence near the summit. We would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to experience Mount St. Helens from different point of view.
MoreWe splurged and took the 40 minute summit tour on our trip to Mt. St. Helen's. The pilot was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He gave a great lecture about what we were seeing and was able to maneuver so all the passengers were able to get good photos. Really just an amazing experience, especially flying into the crater area and seeing Spirit Lake. If you want to splurge and have a once-in-a-lifetime view, I would highly recommend this tour.
MoreThe flight school is now a separate business located in a separate building at Hillsboro and Troutdale and has new owners. I am an aircraft owner and pilot and rating the Hillsboro aviation and not the flight school. I have travelled the country and flown in other countries as a general aviation pilot and this is among the very best fixed based operations I have ever experienced. Their facilities are immaculate and state of the art. If you are a commercial pilot your clients would be impressed. I have purchased parts, had maintenance performed and had avionics upgrades on my aircraft and I would rate them as the most professional organization I have encountered as an aircraft owner, providing fast and efficient service at VERY reasonable pricing. This is a well run organization that cares about its customers and wants to perform the very best service to its clientele. They aim to please. The Portland area has very different winds and cloud cover among PDX, TTD, and HIO, they all have great access to Portland and each have IFR approaches and departures. So, if going to Portland look at Hillsboro as an alternate. By the way, I borrowed a crew car to go to lunch and it was a 500 series Mercedes... it doesn't get better than this. They just handed me the keys.
MoreMy third time using Hillsboro aviation on a scenic flight over mt St. Helens and the best. Robert the pilot was as expected professional, efficient, and safety conscientious. He was also funny and friendly and knew as much about the 1980 eruption as any nonscientist with whom I have talked. An amazing flight with a top rated pilot and tour guide. Recommend highly.
MoreAwe Inspiring: Mt. St Helens from Hoffstadt BluffsWorth every cent. The pilot was extremely informative and his assistant was very friendly and attentive. Seeing the lushness of the side where the ash fell and resolution of the opposing side was better than any history lesson. We took the 35 min trip to the crater and impact areas and could see Mt. Rainer and Mt. Adams during the trip.
