A stunning nexus of history and politics, the stately Pioneer Courthouse stipples the heart of downtown Portland. Built in the 1860s, this courthouse was Portland's first restoration project. Having been home to the United States Courts since 1875, the courthouse shelters polished, well-preserved interiors, whereas its glorious cupola windows afford picturesque views of the Pioneer Courthouse Square and Portland's charming cityscape. A massive locus of historians, lawyers and judges, Pioneer Courthouse is awash in lovely Italianate style, complete with doorways and structured roofing. A testament to the city's federal past and present, the Pioneer Courthouse is, indefinitely, one of the city's crown jewels.

tripadvisorPioneer Courthouse is one of the oldest buildings in Portland. I am very happy to visit though I am a traveller. The building has many American styles furnitures. The building is very beautiful and light. Though it’s my first time to visit, I am also surprised by its beautiful design. Thank you for letting me visit it.
MoreEvery time previously that I have been visiting Portland, the courthouse has been closed, either by being in session, or the weekend. This time, I was lucky to find it open for public tours. You have to go through TSA-style security to get in, but this is a small hassle to deal with. Once inside, you have free reign, with the exception of closed doors. I was the only person wandering around on a Friday morning (I guess mid-March is the off-season). There is so much beautiful woodwork, and everything is well maintained. You even get to ascend all the way up to the cupola, where you take in some pretty views. It was a peaceful oasis in downtown Portland.
MoreThis is a nice old courthouse. It is set up on an embankment and rising about the surrounding area. It’s stone of some sort and cool looking. A nice old building.
MoreUnfortunately like many of the attractions that we wanted to see during our stay ini Portland, the Pioneer Courthouse and Pioneer Courthouse Square fell victim to the recent protests and riots that were occuring. The Pioneer Courthouse was boarded up and there was fencing around the building. The square was littered with graffiti and tagging. Hopefully when we go back to Portland to visit our son things will be cleaned up.
MoreRight across the street from pioneer square is the old courthouse. It is chock full of Oregon history. Don’t miss this. You need to pass through the metal detector , like in the airport, but once inside you are free to roam. And yes you can even climb into the cupola at the top for a great view of the freak parade going on across the street.
