I was very impressed with this orchestra, a full blown powerhouse of sound, precise, direct and no flaws. I heard a program that included Shostakovich's 5th, a genuinely complex and rich musical experience performed as good as any orchestra. While Portland is a modest sized city, this orchestra can hold its own with the top 10. The bonus is the setting, just lovely....

The symphony hall is a renovated older theatre; elegant and artful. Oregon Symphony is wonderful and upper balcony seats are very reasonable even on the day of the concert- $35. Lots of eateries in downtown. If you visit Portland, check it out .

Last night's concert, Boulager, Mendelssohn, Schumann was the best I've heard since I left Chicago. The young, new German conductor, Clemens Schuldt, literally WOWed the audience and apparently won over the orchestra whose members smiled throughout the entire performance, or just about. They never played so well. It was magical. I hope the Board and orchestra will seriously consider hiring him on a permanent basis. C. musician.

I was travelling alone and saw that Beethoven's 5th was being performed. I got a ticket for a reasonable price and enjoyed a wonderful evening of live music! It was a bonus to my short week in Portland for business.

Saturday night Empire Strikes Back as part of their popcorn series was amazing. The symphony was seamless, and you couldn't tell the difference between movie noises/voices and the music. Symphony was beautiful! Also getting to see these movies again on the big screen is wonderful! Last year we caught only one, but we are attending the entire series and look forward to each movie. Such a unique opportunity Oregon Symphony has provided us. Take advantage of this experience if you can!
