I stayed at the Heathman Hotel in Portland on October 3rd and checked out on October 4th as part of my 65th birthday celebration. Unfortunately, what should have been a memorable trip turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience. The hotel's valet service crashed my brand-new 2026 Polestar 4 while it was parked in their garage. We had owned the vehicle for only six weeks. While accidents can happen, what followed was far worse than the accident itself.I was assured by Guest Services Manager Michael Hall that I would receive updates regarding the insurance claim. Instead, I had to follow up myself at least five times through emails and phone calls over more than two weeks just to get basic information. I also contacted the General Manager several times and never received a return call. After all of that, the insurance company finally contacted me only to tell me that I should file the claim through my own insurance company because they could not assist me directly. That level of communication and customer care is unacceptable from a hotel that promotes itself as a luxury property. The Heathman may have a great name and reputation, but when a guest's vehicle is damaged while in their care, accountability and service matter. In my experience, both were severely lacking.I would strongly caution anyone considering valet service here. Based on my experience, I would recommend parking elsewhere and considering other lodging options in Portland. A damaged vehicle is bad enough. Being ignored and forced to chase answers for weeks afterward made the situation much worse.

I felt that the room was a big disappointment. Very lackluster furniture, boring Art, a terrible uncomfortable bed and a bathroom the size of the closet.I love the location, but I don’t think I could return to that hotel…

What a disappointing experience we had at the Heathman. We have stayed there many times over the past 35 years since we moved to the PNW, and have generally been quite satisfied. This visit was different, though. We visited 5 nights, weekday and weekend. Housekeeping was lackadaisical at best - one day they didn’t come at all, despite our speaking with both the front desk and the housecleaning staff directly, and other days they didn’t empty the trash. The front desk staff was friendly and tried to be helpful, but were unaware of the hours that housekeeping was available. And the front desk arrangement is downright silly - one enters at the back of the staff, who stand at two podium-like stands. It’s an unwelcoming sight. The breakfast buffet was sparse and grossly overpriced at $20 per person, and the restaurant was closed (with no notice on the website or when we made the reservation.) There are better choices in the neighborhood by far and we’ll be choosing them next time. So sorry to see an iconic hotel devolve in this way.

Fine hotel with good Service. The front desk, staff, & valet were very helpful & efficient. The free breakfast had fresh fruit, pastries, scrambled eggs & sausage. There is an incredibly eclectic library, & a well equipped fitness room. Our King room had a comfy bed, tasteful decor, but was sm. w/o any work space. There was not any separate & quiet work space available to us. We asked for an extra blanket, coffee, & mugs. The view was an office bldg with windows facing you.

I've stayed at the Heathman more than a dozen times over the last 20 years and it was always one of my favorite old school city hotels. I don't know what has happened with the service. I tried contacting room service and the front desk multiple times just to get some water but was put on hold for over ten minutes three times. I even approached a member of the housekeeping staff about getting some water and she just told me to call the front desk. I ended up using Uber Eats to order water from the local CVS. This makes the Heathman in line with Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn. Pathetic. This review should just be one star but I added an extra star just for nostalgia.
