The Bush House Museum, a splendid Victorian mansion, formerly served as a home to the family of Asahel Bush II. Bush was an influential personality of the region who amassed a fortune by founding the Oregon Statesman newspaper as well as the Ladd and Bush bank. The Bush House Museum is a tastefully decorated Victorian house, built in the late 19th century, that displays original furnishings, artifacts, exhibits and a plethora of things used by the family then. Since 1953, the Bush House was transformed into a historic museum and has been managed by the Salem Art Association. The organization hosts various art festivals, exhibitions and other art-related events in the Bush House Museum. Check their website to know more.

tripadvisorThe house has most of the original furniture. Only one family owned it then donated it to the city of Salem with most of the furniture. It has interesting fixtures and beautiful Italian marble fireplaces. It’s set in a large park that was the original 100 acre grounds of the house. Highly recommend!
MoreThis house was not initially in our plans to visit during our stay in Salem, but when we discovered that it was free to tour, we added it to our schedule. The free tickets are picked up at the nearby art gallery for guided tours on the hour starting at 1, 2, 3 and 4 pm. There were 13 in our group which was about the maximum size since some of the rooms are smallish, and our guide had lots of information about the house to share with us so we would recommend it.
MoreThe walking trails are safe and easy to walk. There are secret gardens by The Bush house, creeks, and roses at the rose gardens. We love to take our dogs there.
MoreBeautiful park and interesting are gallery. We spent an hour in the gallery and appreciated the different art works by local artists. Well worth a visit.
MoreWe had a very nice historical tour of the house with a friendly and knowledgeable guide. I would have liked to have been able to see the servants quarters and have had a bit more time to explore the house. But overall it was definitely worth the visit and not very expensive at all. The grounds are gorgeous.
