I purchased peaches. They were running a special, buy two flats get one free. The cost was $39.95 a flat. The peaches looked beautiful. Two days later, I started to process them. They still looked great on the outside. When I opened them, the flesh had turned brown next to the pit almost out to the outside of the beach. It tasted terrible and was mushy. I went back to Detering's Orchard a couple days later to tell them of my experience. The lady was very rude to me. It appeared that she wanted me to get out of there as soon as possible and she gave me two flats of peaches free of charge. When I got them home, I opened one and found that it was very cold on the inside, almost frozen. I could not pry the pit out, but had to cut it out. The next morning, I started to process the peaches. They were as bad as the first ones, so I cut them up and froze them. I ended up giving most of the peaches to my brother to give to his chickens. I read an article as to why this might happen and it said that they were probably improperly cooled. I will not shop there again. It is very sad because Detering Orchard's has been a valuable and reputable business in the community of Harrisburg.

This place is not what it used to be when it was owned by Gerald Detering. The out of state owners have turned this from a family farm into a corporate cash grab. It's sad what it's turned into. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

This is a nice Little get up,it is cute and there are goats and chickens. You can pick what is in season but the prices are really higher than any other self pick i have been to. They have a really big market with lots of fruits and vegetables but once again prices are super high. 12.99 for a jar of peaches.We bought salsa the price was 7.99 each and the flavors were bland.I will go back as it is a fun place to go with children ,just be prepared to spend a lot of money :)

Every year we go to Detering to get our pumpkins to make pumpkin bread and pumpkin pies through the season. We thought we were early enough to get what we needed. We normally get the sweet squash in different variety's. Today they only had sugar pie pumpkins, of which they only had 4 that were not rotted. 2 were a decent size and 2 were miniature. They were 2.29 each, not really a great price but we try to support the local businesses. Unfortunately they have become like so many businesses and become to commercial to be considered local. I had 2 reasonable sized pumpkins and two miniatures. I asked if I could get a break on the price for the miniatures. The register clerk called the manager. He was a young man full of himself and said in a very rude way NO! no way. 2.29 no matter what the size and then he walked away. Ok, that was the answer to my question, but then he got on the PA and announced to the entire population there I just want to let you all know that the sugar pie pumpkins are 2.29 each, we don't give discounts for the smaller ones, like that gentlemen who wanted a discount I had other things in my cart but I Just left them there and walked off. I know I'm just one customer so they don't really care, but it's sad because I will never go back to my local farm, ever. Oh and by the way I will share this on every social media account I have. There was no reason to be rude. I asked the question, was that bad?
