I live only 8 mins away from this little gem. I parked at the park and ride and started my hike. There are no signs marking which way to go so I had to have an app to show me. This walk is very close to I25 so you can hear the cars pretty much the whole way around. But not too bad. It’s very flat so young and old alike can enjoy this. Also don’t miss the old Strauss cabin that is on the trail too. It has an info plaque which tells you about the history of the cabin.

Convenient location to drop in for a quick dose of nature. Despite its proximity to I-25, it has a natural feeling and there are paths that wind around ponds, along the river and around a reservoir. Trails are flat, and you can choose shorter or longer loops. Good birdwatching opportunities.

There is a cemented walk to the north part way around the reservoir there. You can't go near the water in the reservoir and there are signs posted saying this. The walkway has the railroad to the north and a brisk walk of up to a mile can be found. The Strauss cabin remains are there to see as well. Some folks hoof it along the grass trail that people have worn along the river. Going east there is also a cement path to walk on as well. I haven't explored it all, so I can't say much more at this time. It is noisy with I-25 close by, but it does get you outside in nature so give it a try!

It is hard to believe that you have such a beautiful wild area so close to Fort Collins and Interstate 25. There are ponds, fishing, and wildlife as well as a great view of the mountains to the West. On the East side is the Cache La Poudre River bordered by trees, bushes and native plants. An excellent place to take a leisurely walk or run.

This area is great for exploring and the concrete trail is cleared of snow so one can walk there after a storm. Occasionally bald eagles have been seen there.
