You no longer can go inside the War Memorial Natatorium. Once the sight of world class swim events, it no longer is safe to enter. The decks have decayed and there is a chain and lock keeping everyone out. A shame this memorial to our veteran's was left to fall apart. I hear there is a movement around fix it up.....keep your fingers crossed

How can a war memorial be allowed to fall into this state of disrepair. It is an insult to the memory of those whom it is meant to commemorate. Come on, Waikiki. Get your act together and renovate this historic landmark or shame on you!

At one time many, many years ago it may have been a great place but now it is nothing. You can not enter it for its dangerous. The place is falling apart and condemned. The city is making plans to renovate the decayed saltwater pool that was graced with the dukes presence. It will be either a volleyball area or..... Who knows. Other than the outside view there is nothing to see

My wife and I had NO IDEA the War Memorial Natatorium existed until we visited the Honolulu Aquarium. Thankfully parking was typically and we had to walk about half a mile to get to the aquarium walking right past the War Memorial Natatorium. We visited the aquarium and on the way back to the car we stopped by the memorial to see what it was. Glad we did, thanks to Wikipedia and smart phones we were quickly able to find out it was a monument to Hawaiians who severed and/or died during World War 1 and that opened on Duke Kahanamoku birthday in 1927. The beautiful façade hides the fact the memorial is in danger because of years of neglect and needs vital repairs. If you like to pay respect to our men and women who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice visit this. A very good website about the natatorium is http://natatorium.org/
