Established in 1936, Bowers Museum is likely the best all-around museum in Orange County. With funds donated by Charles Bowers, the complex was built in the style of the California Missions and is adorned with murals honoring that motif. Originally focused on local history, the museum has since enlarged its focus to incorporate artifacts from the cultures of Southeast Asia, Oceania, Mexico, and Native America. Several interesting exhibitions are often featured at the museum. This place is a must-visit for those who are passionate about the past.

I had never heard of the Bowers Museum, and I went there since it was close to Anaheim and had great reviews. I'd recommend for anybody to visit it: a great collection, which I discovered after starting with their amazing special exhibit on Chinese clay soldiers. The collection was actually much bigger than I expected, and I had to rush through part of it to finish my visit before having to go to my next appointment. I'll happily go back.

Seeing the warriors was interesting and they do have someone there willing to share additional history. That exhibit has a lot of pre-history filler (assuming you really interested in the warriors themselves), but the main event is nicely presented. Certainly worth seeing once - and I had not. The main museum itself - meh. You need to be into African or Pacific Island art to really appreciate it as it leans HEAVILY into that. Not my thing. Beyond that, there isn't much. Some focus on CA Spanish, Mexican heritage/art. Pretty surroundings, but at $30 for the warriors as the only real attraction (for me), not cheap. They also want you to pay for parking which is just too much on top of that. Unmetered and unrestricted side street parking is available if you take a few minutes to look and you don't have to walk that far - 2 blocks.

My nephew and I attended the Chinese Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the Bowers Museum in 2013. Today, I brought my granddaughter. The exhibit is even better, with additional research included about what has since been found at the original site where the Terracotta warriors were located. An amazing minutes-long 3-walled video imagines the warriors, horses, chariots etc. Don't miss visiting the gift shops!
