tripadvisorI and my friends like to ride this trail on our bikes. It has the advantage of being in the shade for the most part. And, while much of the trail is in good shape, there are several places where the trail is a real washboard in need of some maintenance. You should also be aware that there are several fords across Sugarland Run that can be tricky because of algae or just the speed of the stream after a rain storm. So, it's a great place for a walk and a good place for a ride assuming your bikes are built for a few bumps in the rough spots.
MoreMy hubby and I walk a lot.... (last year we hiked more than 1,300 miles) so we really appreciate when we find a path that has been well maintained and is sheltered by trees. Last Saturday was a nice day, so we drove to Herndon thinking we would walk the Herndon Parkway. We just happened to park at Duck Donuts at Eldon Street when we looked over and saw a sign for Sugarland Run trail. We decided to give it a try and thought it was wonderful. We walked 3 miles out (toward Wiehle Avenue) and 3 miles back. Not once did we have to trudge through mud and the few times you have to cross streams, there are wonderful concrete steps that you could use to cross. We mostly had the path to ourselves, but I would imagine during the summer this MUST be walked by many. If you haven't found the Sugarland Run Stream Valley trail, you really should give it a try.
