tripadvisorWe kayaked Coffee Pot bayou. It was rough starting out but not because of the park itself but once again People!!! Have some respect and common decency. We be almost couldn’t stay because the boat and trailer parking was full. Not by trailers just random cars, completely ignoring the boat trailer parking only signs. The second issue was as we were loading our kayaks we were accosted by a man on a bicycle. He rode his bike to the boat ramp and started cussing us out for “being rich” and “having everything and showing off”. Now the park itself was nice. We saw manatee and dolphins and it was a great paddle.
MoreCoffee Pot Boulevard marks the boundary between beautiful historic St Petersburg and Coffee Pot Bayou, where the manatees abound. Get there early due to limited parking in the park. Street parking is also available
MoreCoffee Pot Bayou and Coffee Pot Park in Old Northeast St. Petersburg are St. Petersburg gems that don't get the attention they deserve. The northwest corner of the Coffee Pot has a small park with a fenced in playground, boat ramp and parking lot that is frequently full. The bayou itself is a little gem surrounded by beautiful homes. No bars or tattoo parlors. Just a gorgeous residential area with private boat slips and well manicured front lawns. The west side of the Coffee Pot has a wide sidewalk that is popular for bikers, joggers, walkers and fishermen. The sidewalk is part of a bike path that runs north to Weedon Island Preserve and south past downtown St. Pete to connect with other bike trails that will get you to Tropicana Field and even the Gulf beaches. The Coffee Pot teems with bunker and the sports fish that prey on them. You cannot walk the Coffee Pot without hearing the splash of fish jumping. You also will see osprey, pelicans, anhingas, laughing gulls, ducks and other seabirds. It is not uncommon to see painted turtles sunning on the boat docks. Dolphin sightings are more common past the Snell Island Bridge. In the winter months, manatees swim into the warmer waters of the Coffee Pot. The best place to look for them is near Coffee Pot Blvd and 23rd Ave. NE where the fresh water of Crescent Lake flows into the saline waters of the Coffee Pot. The manatees come to this spot to get a drink of fresh water. If you start your walk or bike ride at Coffee Pot Park, you can walk along the water to the Snell Island bridge. Going past the bridge you will encounter Vinoy Park, the Vinoy Beach with its volleyball courts that are home to local college volleyball tournaments and then on to the Gizella Kopsick Palm and Cycad Arboretum. Keep going and you will pass Al Lang field (home to the city's pro soccer team) whose parking lot is home to the St. Petersburg Saturday Market for much of the year. Keep going and you will pass the Dali and Fine Arts Museums. The walkway along the Coffee Pot has no hills and is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
