Founded in 1988, Seattle Public Theater was originally a small company that primarily toured plays in local Seattle public schools and worked with adult and at-risk youth populations to create socially conscious theater. In 2000, Seattle Public was chosen by the City of Seattle in a competitive bidding process to be the resident theater company at the historic Bathhouse. Since then Seattle Public has had a remarkable rebirth to become one of Seattle's premiere mid-sized theaters, renowned for both an ambitious education program as well as high-quality professional productions.

tripadvisorWe laughed from beginning to end! The script was excellent and its delivery by the awesome cast was impeccable! We all loved the show last year and we wanted to repeat the experience… it was brilliant then and it’s even better now!!Can’t recommend the show highly enough!
MoreVery nice small theatre. Not really a bad seat in the house. Free parking available in the lot beside the theatre. Nice walking trail beside it if you want to go for a stroll before the performance!
MoreAfter years of walking by this theatre company's venue -- a former 1928 bathhouse at Green Lake -- and vowing to attend a production here, we finally did that recently. We saw Hand to God, the final play of the season, and found it to be an extremely well-done dark (very dark) comedy. The cast was superb and the lead actor's skill with a demonic puppet proved to be phenomenal. I think the historic bathhouse, which can accommodate 165 attendees, provides a wonderful, intimate theatre experience. The stage is simply space at ground level with the audience sitting in a tiered U-shape around it. Though the acoustics are fine, as a short person, I had difficultly seeing from one of the back rows because of tall people in front of me. During the first of two acts, I missed many of the puppet's movements. When I talked with an usher about moving to empty seats a little closer to the stage for the second act, she asked me to wait a minute and returned with an offer of two usher seats in the first row. That outstanding location helped us to appreciate the production and the volunteers even more. We noticed that everyone working here was exceedingly pleasant and helpful. My only regret is that there will be no more performances during our stay in Seattle. This is a professional and exceeding talented company, which will now focus in the summer on its education program for students of all ages. The Bathhouse Theatre stands at the western side of Green Lake's trail near Aurora Avenue North. There is a large, free parking lot nearby on West Green Lake Drive North, just off of Aurora. The theatre is accessed via a path at the lot's east end.
MoreWe've been season's ticket holders for many years at this very small, high quality live theater. Uses excellent local actors, and they do plays you probably haven't heard of but should have. Direction usually outstanding and staging minimalist but suited to the venue. It's so small you are close to the actors no matter what, and often can get even a front row seat. Season is fall and winter, and they do workshops for kids in the summer.
