We went on a lovely sunny afternoon (Dec 16, 2025) and after a short introduction to what we were going to be looking for we hiked about 10 mins to a stream bed. All tools were supplied and our guide helped us a bit and showed us his technique for scooping and sifting. It was not long after that we began to find sharks' teeth and other small fossilized items. It is possible to participate and not really get your feet wet or you can get wet up to your knees. I chose the latter, and my husband managed to stay dry. It was a fun, quiet experience. We saw two deer in the woods, squirrels, and our guide spotted a rabbit. It's easy to zone out looking for the fossils in the screens provided. I would say go with the expectation of finding small items and be happy if you land 'a big one'. As with many things in life it's a numbers game. You never know what that next shovel full might yield! Appropriate for children maybe 5-7 years on up. Depends on their interest and attention span for sure. Bugs were really non existent. Not sure what the summer might be like. Bring bug dope just in case, sunscreen, water proof boots if you have them. I wore an old pair of sneakers and they worked just fine. We would definitely do this again if our travels take us nearby! Enjoy!

DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE!!! I am not one to typically even write reviews unless I feel very strongly one way or another. However, if my one review will make a difference to even one family then the time I will take to write my truth will be worth it. Today we had a tour that we booked and payed for a days ago. Showed up this morning about 15 mins late as we got lost finding the place, understanding being timely is important we tried to call and email numerously (no answer). We waited at the address for almost an hour until a very nice elder gentleman that was walking down the road took us to the creek where the tour was (informing us we had to go through his property which he said he did not mind one bit) upon arriving to the creek Hurley immediately started cursing at the gentleman for f****** with his business & saying he should have left us where he found us (two women with 6 small children) stated that we are trespassing despite the fact that we payed & book a tour for the time we were there. We never yelled or cursed, just tried to talk to him.. he made it very clear he did not care what we were saying. He held on to his gun during the entire conversation, we said we felt uncomfortable at this point and it became necessary to call the police. He continued to tell us what type of gun he had on him while keeping his hand on the gun ( again at no threat from unarmed non confrontational women with young children). When I called the police they told us to go back to our vehicle, I told the police he was following us recording and our vehicle was in his driveway. We put our children in the car because they were scared, I even pulled out of his driveway & parked behind his mailbox. He then approached our vehicle and said we were still unsafe even that close to his home. The cops said this was a very sketchy business, and it was recommended we tell what happened here today.

The kids had a blast visiting Mudslinger Tours. They hunted for shark teeth and fossils for hours and came home with tons and tons of specimens. It's an easy day trip from Jacksonville and they provide everything you need.
