this memorial was along the route walked and the area seemed safer than expected - perhaps due to the special event. The signs and history were well marked and nice to read.

Had visited here several years ago and the park contains many memorieal to see and this is one.The USS Los Angels has held this name and this memorial is gor the Battle Cruise. There was a Blim and Submarine also nated. Easy to see and a great find.

While the memorial is pretty under-stated the whole area is so well done. They have fixed up the surrounding park lands and made it special. The chance to look up close at one of the 16 inch artillery shells from the old battleship days is something, especially with the USS Iowa right around the corner sporting 9 of them. Hard to believe they could toss a 'volkswagen' 25+ miles.

Lots to see - the main mast of the ship is preserved to include anchors and a 16 inch gun with Shell mounted on pedistals from the USS New Jersey. Very interesting to read about and see. Just down the street from Battleship Iowa
