Medical acupuncture is acupuncture performed by Western trained healthcare providers. It is a blend of classical acupuncture principles and techniques with current biomedical concepts. Medical acupuncture offers the opportunity to treat conditions for which current interventions have either been ineffective or have undesirable risks and side effects. Because medical acupuncture has a wide range of effects, not only is there a reduction in pain with treatment, but also an improvement in sleep, anxiety and depression, and general vitality. Medical acupuncture is similar to Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture, but philosophy and practice techniques can differ.
