tripadvisorMy wife and I are officially wowed! We have never seen such large scale, perfectly detailed, sculptures anywhere in the world. Have you ever seen a full scale stagegoach pulled by four full scale horses made out of metal. Sr. Breceda misses no details in his scuputre. Eyebrows, mane on horses and zebras, knots in rope, life size cowboys and Native Americans on full scale horses in action poses. There are also a lot of smaller scale scuptures. I can't possibly describe how fascinating and moving our visit to the sculpture garden was. If you are ever in the San Diego area, you owe it to yourself to visit. Take the time. You will be glad you did. You will probably want to purchase something to carry or ship home too. We did.
MoreRicardo’s work was a special find in the desert. Glad we stopped in and loved the eclectic combination of themes and sense of humor throughout the works. Dint’t miss it!
MoreAs a San Diego native and business owner I try to purchase as local as possible as often as possible. Once every few years I like to pick up a larger art piece for my home. I’ve been driving by Mr Ritardo’s sculpture location on the way to Aguanga for at least the last 15 years watching as the sculptures continued to improve in quality & selection. I was very excited on my way back in town to see that they had a full size alien sculpture (we turned around to come back to view it) which is an item I’ve been in the market for but was told I would need to pay $10 per person to view the item. I mentioned that I am local and not here in any kind of tourist fashion, did not have any kids with me nor did I need to use the restroom so my question was do I still have to pay to shop for that specific item. Mr. Ritardo was very brusque mentioning that I use his space, park in his lot & use his restroom I should be willing to pay. I once again reaffirmed that I was not interested in looking at anything else only those alien sculptures that he had and getting a price on them, which he is response was “it’s not like you would buy it anyways.” And pretty much chased me off. I understand that there are a lot of people that waste time for professionals especially artists and that it was not my intention in any way to offend him but I am not going pay $10 to look at an item that would take me at least three or four visits to decide on and a fair bit of money to buy. He quoted me $20,000 for the item I was interested in so I was even more surprised by his demeanor because items at this value tend to have a much different sales approach than what was offered here with telling the potential client they can’t afford it/aren’t making a purchase. When I am spending that kind of money it would take me at least three or four visits minimum, a relationship with the artist I valued, and an experience that left a good taste in my mouth so that every time I saw that piece of art in my home I would feel good about it. I’m really sad for this person but I can only assume they must be making good money or they would not have acted like that. I am sad for me because I missed out on something that I’ve been looking for for a long time but now that I have a price point I’m sure I can find someone to make a commission.
MoreIt’s fascinating to see this gallery! Unbelievable talent in creating such beautiful art. Ricardo sculptures magnificent statues, each unique and truthful and the details are impressive. Go and enjoy! We bought three pieces.
MoreYou can walk among his sculptures, and get a feel for how they are created. Makes seeing his work along HWY 79 and around Birregi Springs more meaningful
