Guys night out, so we drove 15 miles to the Spar. I'm a Halibut & Chips Snob (try them at every restaurant that offers them). The Spar's Halibut & Chips are THE BEST that I've found. Large portion, fried just right in Panko. Plus, the owner, Kathy Manke is THE BEST. her staff loves working there. That night she ( & other restaurants) donated 25% of their proceeds to the Tacoma Community House that helps immigrants and refugeesI love the atmosphere at the Spar in Old Town Tacoma
MoreFun evening listening to a friend's brother and his fellow musicians play. Quite a snug fit if you want to be in the same room as the music. Just proves what a popular place it is. We shared plates of homemade chips while waiting for our meals. Light and crispy. I ordered a grilled chicken burger and house salad. The key, for me, to a great place is the freshness of the salad. Definitely passed that test. Everyone enjoyed their choices. Loved that the music started at 8 and ended by 11. Too old for late nights!
MoreI always enjoy visits to The Spar, whether it's to watch friends perform live in the tavern, meet up with old friends, or grab a couple beers with my parents. Great food, and I like their beer selection. A well-loved local's spot, my mom has been going there for 45 years.
MoreAfter a long day House Shopping we stopped in to an old Favorite, The Spar for a late lunch. Promptly greeted just after we sat down. Ordered a few drafts and perused the menu. Since we had not been there for a long time, both of us ordered the Halibut and chips. The food came out hot and crisp with flavor of no bounds. While we enjoyed the meal we also enjoyed the mostly unobstructed view of Commencement Bay and Puget Sound. A lovely place that does not disappoint.

Catch the music when ever you can..hard to beat looking out towards the sound and sunset with great friends,beer and live.music. Music area holds about 50 so arrive early
