Since I was driving right past it anyway, I had to stop. I pulled into a closed down business next to the car lot the plaque is out front of and walked over for a handful of pictures. These little markers for interesting events in history always interest me.

We had lunch about 3 miles from this and I saw the one review previously posted detailing this small monument. We are all about random quirky attractions so we had to stop! Very easy to spot...we parked in the small lot of the vacant bldg next to Schoepps car dealership and the monument was literally 6 ft from where we parked, right along the sidewalk. Nothing spectacular but is a quick and easy stop.

This is the site of a street fight broken up by THE Elvis Presley in 1977. There is a small stone monument in the bushes by the sidewalk of what is now Schoepp Motors. We parked around the block next to what looked like a small 2 story closed radio station or communications building. The road is a small residential road that has no-parking signs, but we risked parking there for the 5 minutes we figured this stop would take. The monument is close to right between that gray radio building and the car dealership, along the sidewalk. The plaque is missing, but the monument is there. Story goes: Elvis, in a limo, on his way to Madison from Des Moines, pulled up to a red light at the intersection, saw 2 youths beating a 3rd youth on the ground, hopped out of his limo, confronted the youths with a classic karate stance, and once the youths recognized Elvis they agreed to end the fight. Elvis the hero. Fun little stop of classic Rock and Roll nostalgia.
