A historic mansion on the lake. Very nice. Comfortable rooms, pleasant continental breakfast, free parking and within walking distance of many things. Note it his a hilly city. It is an autonomous establishment...codes , no hosts that hover. Sometimes that's refreshing.

This is a fine place to stay if you just want the basics and have no desire to interact with hosts. Easy in/out. Our room, White, was quite small. Bathroom was lovely. Location was perfect for all of our explorations.

Not a hotel. If you think of this place as a B&B then you won’t be too disappointed but branding it as a boutique hotel and charging these rates is just not right. The rooms are ok although the windows and frames need major overhaul..The bathrooms were great with good fittings and loads of hot water. The reception rooms downstairs were large and well decorated but soulless as was the fact that there was no-one at all on duty and everything was self serveEven expecting you to put used plates etc into a server crate and used towels from the room in a central bin - I’m surprised they didn’t ask us to strip the bedsThis is way overpriced for an oversold proposition .

We stayed at the LaFollette Room (#201) at this B&B for one night while visiting our son who lives in an apartment nearby. We loved the historic feel of the inn and felt like we were stepping back in time. It was interesting to read about the history of the mansion and enjoyed all the historically accurate details. The room was well-appointed and the bed was very comfortable. We had no problem with the contactless check-in and were not expecting to be greeted by a live person. We did not spend a lot of time at the B&B, as we were in town for one night to see our son. It was super convenient to have parking provided, as we left the car and walked around the corner to our son's apartment and then went on to dinner near the Capitol. It's a beautiful area and we hope to return to the Governor's Mansion Inn! The only real negative was that the water pressure in the shower was very minimal. Hopefully this will be addressed ASAP. It wasn't a deal-breaker though, and we would book another stay.

We searched for bed and breakfast locations in Madison, Wisconsin and this fits the description. It is not what my wife and I are accustomed to when thinking of a B&B. The first floor reminds us of a museum with sparse furnishings and art displayed. The building has been modified to modern day standards while retaining the original look as much as possible. The part that did not fit our plans was that no one was there to greet the guests. We received an email with a code to unlock the outside door and our room door. The next morning they did provide coffee and scones, but I don't consider that a real breakfast. We also didn't see the other guests and in other B&B's we have enjoyed getting to know people that are traveling and sharing past experiences. If you want to enter an empty building with out being seen or seeing other people and stay in a museum setting, this might be just the right place for you.If you enjoy getting to know a husband and wife that take pride in sharing their home with guests, this is not the right place for you.
