This hotel is hundreds cheaper than others in the area. It's old... But it's clean and that's all that really matters. Would stay here again. Our rate was $85/night. The shower was hot and the beds had fresh sheets

I unfortunately tried staying here as it was the only room available for 1 night. Staff was very mundane, I was actually asked if I wanted to see the room before I took it.They give you 1 towel, 1 bar of soap and a roll of toilet paper. You have to share a community bathroom (if you dare), people outside WOULD NOT shut up, the window was broken & wouldn't close, the mini blinds were completely trashed, the bed WAS made but the pillow case had someone elses hair all over it. I took what after shave I had to disinfect the bed, laid down the towel and slept in my clothes. 4 hrs was enough as I left before the riff raff started moving about as I figured I might get mugged here. This place needs to be condemned, period!

This hotel by far is the worst hotel I ever stayed at not only is some of the staff lazy and rude the rooms are not very clean. They claim to offer cable TV but only offer 2 channels which you have to fight to watch the shows you want to with the other guest. I will never advise anyone to stay there.

okay so you now how when you go to a hotel the sheets usually are clean, new and matching? Well that's not how they do it at the Spenard. the sheets were floral, solid, mismatched and looked about 15 years old. That I was going to grin and bear. The ciggerate burns and rips in the comforter I was going to grin and bear. The dangling lightbulb instead of a normal lamp I was going to just turn a blind eye to. The old microwave on a foldout and the holes in the bathroom door I was looking past. The Adults Only store right next door was difficult to look past, but hey it was just going to be one night and i'd find somewhere else tomorrow, right? So now to the bed bug discovery...I was sitting up in the bed at about 1AM - unwilling to bring myself to lay in the sheets. I was sitting for only ten minutes in the light of the room till a bug comes scampering across my shoulder...I tried to capture it on a piece of paper and right when it hit the paper it moved at an unprecidented speed - so i squished it. I thought it might be a tick but I wasn't sure. I looked up bed bugs on my phone and was horrified to find out that it was infact a bed bug. When I showed the evidence to the owner/employee she said, Oooooh, that's a BIG ONE!! I got the heck out of there and found the most wonderful hotel down the street - Eagle...something was in the title. I will definitely go back to that one. Things you need to know about bed bugs: 1:they only feast on human and animal blood. 2:They can survive up to a year without eating. 3:They usually onl come out in the dark but in some cases (like mine) can be seen in the light. 4: You can only be sure you have an infestation if you physically see one. 5:They are nearly impossible to get rid of - exterminators even have problems with them. 6:you will likely bring them home with you if you encounter them. 7:They come out in the hundreds in the night and eat their sleeping victims like a gift from hell.

I made the error of looking for an affordable place to stay. I should have left when they told me I needed a $50 cash deposit to check in and had to prepay the room before getting a key. I was exhausted and needed sleep. Before even getting tro my room I was approached in the parking lot asking if I was looking for some company. The room had no air conditionioning and I was given a fan. The room outside temperature was 70 the room temperature was set at 85 and there was no way to turn off the heat. I was on a work assignment and spent three nights at this dump and if I had not prepaid I would have been gone after the first morning. After not having the room cleaned or the bed made in two days I asked why my room had not been serviced and was told the rooms were only cleaned when requested. The carpets were stained, the doors in the bathroom broken. The room was clean when I checked in, the refrigerator and the mirowave worked. The room was under a $100 a night in the summer in Anchorage which is not a bad price if you are only looking for a bed and don't intend to sleep.
