Alaska Pacific University College & University

With 170 acres of beautiful natural forest, this university is quite scenic and contains three miles of campus trails. Begun in 1959, as the Alaska Methodist University, it is a private, liberal arts college whose philosophy is "how you learn is as important as what you learn." This philosophy produces a much more "hands-on" approach to teaching students than is customary for a university. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees for its 1,000 part-time and full-time student body. Call or visit the Website for more information.

They rent bear spray (and lots of other equipment) here and I'd much rather pay a few dollars to rent bear spray than buy a can that I can't take home with me so I really appreciate that service. I think it was $7 to rent the bear spray for just over a week and it was well worth it to have that peace of mind. It was super simple to go to the equipment room to rent and return it and there was plenty of parking available. Will rent from again

The campus at APU is one in a million. There is abundant wildlife surrounding the campus including moose, goshawks and great birds. The school is very small and specializes in environmental science. During the winter it is a great place to ski as there are kilometers of groomed trails with almost no one on them.

APU is a wonderful, small, liberal arts university that is the highest ranked in Alaska. The faculty are outstanding and the students inspiring.

Beautifully nestled between trees and adjacent to UAA. Small school, small classes but NOT small minds. This campus offers so many great learning opportunities inside and outside of the classrooms. Compared to other schools, you will pay more but the learning environment is so much richer-it's well worth it!
