tripadvisorWe had a brief look at this statue on our way to Victoria Mansion from the cruise port. A history lesson to be had.
MoreEasy to find on corner of Pleasant & Center Street up the hill from the main shopping drag.Nice sculptured with tons of history etched in stone base and big chunks of stone or granite around.Nice history lesson especially if you're a fan
MoreThe sculpture of famous director John Ford is still as eye-catching as ever. He was born John Martin Feeney and known as 'Bull'. Unfortunately, the Portland Irish pub Bull Feeney has closed and will be replaced by 'The Henry' in honor of Henry Longfellow, who was also from Portland. That wasn't set in stone (or in this case, bronze), but thankfully this statue is and won't be replaced. Interesting fact: Mr. Ford lived on Danforth Street, only a few houses down from the statue, for a short time.
MoreWe were touring the Old Port area, and having just gone to Victoria Mansion, we saw this beautiful statue. Walking over we were pleased to see that there were plaques that listed and described John Ford's most famous movies. Well worth stopping by to get a closer look at this beautiful statue that recognizes this famous Portland native.
MorePublic Art and statues provide a city like Portland something to add to the community fabric. This is a statue dedicated to John Ford. It is located a little ways from the central port tourist area but interesting to learn something about the film maker/ director.
